Family Dentistry

Family dentistry and general dentistry are often exchanged as the same term, but in reality they have very different meanings. General dentistry is when a dentist does not have a defined area of specialization, but rather they are licensed to practice in all capacities of dentistry. Anyone who desires can visit a family dentist, but the real opportunity is when you have a family that ranges in age. Instead of having to make separate appointments at different dentist offices, you can all go together to the same dentist no matter what age. Most family dental practices cover all general dentistry aspects for all ages, so it’s convenient one-stop-shopping for all your dental needs. The dentists at Ladd Dental Group of McCordsville have been trained to work with children, teenagers and adults. Bring your family in today for the dental care they need.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Be confident in your smile. Cosmetic, or aesthetic, dentistry focuses on improving appearance and facial self-image by correcting the alignment, shape, and color of teeth. Dental professionals who offer cosmetic options can improve the appearance of stained, chipped, and misshapen teeth, and correct uneven gums and replace old fillings with nearly invisible filling materials. Cosmetic dentistry procedures are elective and, therefore, often not often covered by insurance. The most popular option in cosmetic dentistry is tooth whitening, an area that is experiencing a 15 to 20% growth a year. Most dental practices offer tooth whitening, which involves the use of at-home and in-office supervised whitening systems that brighten stained, discolored, or dull-looking teeth. Veneers are the second most popular cosmetic dentistry option. Used to correct chipped, cracked or worn teeth, veneers are ultra thin tooth coverings, sometimes made of porcelain or composite materials. Bonding is another process also used to correct chipped, cracked, or worn teeth. Crowns, dental bridges, and dental implants can be used to replace missing teeth or correct bite dysfunction. Today's newer technology includes porcelain and ceramic tooth replacements that look real and blend with existing teeth.
Dr. Shoba and Ladd Dental Group of McCordsville team have a ton of experience with cosmetic procedures, to give you the smile you’ve been dreaming of.

Sedation Dentistry

For people who avoid dentists like the plague, sedation dentistry may take away some of their anxiety. Sedation can be used for everything from invasive procedures to a simple tooth cleaning. How it's used depends on the severity of the fear. Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. It's sometimes referred to as "sleep dentistry," although that's not entirely accurate. The following types of sedation are used in dentistry:

Inhaled minimal sedationYou breathe nitrous oxide -- otherwise known as "laughing gas" -- combined with oxygen through a mask that's placed over your nose. The gas helps you relax. Your dentist can control the amount of sedation you receive, and the gas tends to wear off quickly. This is the only form of sedation where you may be able to drive yourself home after the procedure.

Oral sedation: Depending on the total dose given, oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate. For minimal sedation, you take a pill. Typically, the pill is Halcion, which is a member of the same drug family as Valium, and it's usually taken about an hour before the procedure. The pill will make you drowsy, although you'll still be awake. A larger dose may be given to produce moderate sedation. This is the type of anesthesia most commonly associated with sedation dentistry. Some people become groggy enough from moderate oral sedation to actually fall asleep during the procedure. They usually can, though, be awakened with a gentle shake.

IV moderate sedation: You receive the sedative drug through a vein, so it goes to work more quickly. This method allows the dentist to continually adjust the level of sedation.

Deep sedation: You will get medications that will make you almost unconscious during the procedure. You will be "awake", but you are unaware of what is going on, and have absolutely no sense of time.

Regardless of which type of sedation you receive, you'll also typically need a local anesthetic -- numbing medication at the site where the dentist is working in the mouth -- to relieve pain if the procedure causes any discomfort. Don’t let your fear of dentists harm your oral health. Sedation dentistry is an anxiety-free approach to dental work. Come in to Ladd Dental Group of McCordsville to improve your teeth and relax.

Whitening

Teeth whitening is the restoration of the patient's natural tooth shade. Restoration of the underlying, natural tooth shade is possible by simply removing surface (extrinsic) stains (e.g. from tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco) and calculus (tartar). This is achieved by having the teeth cleaned by a dental professional (commonly termed "scaling and polishing"), or at home by various oral hygiene methods. Calculus is difficult to remove without a professional clean.
To whiten the natural tooth shade, bleaching is suggested. It is a common procedure in cosmetic dentistry, and a number of different techniques are used by dental professionals. Many different products are also marketed for home use. Techniques include bleaching strips, bleaching pen, bleaching gel, and laser tooth whitening. Bleaching methods generally use either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide which breaks down into hydrogen peroxide. Whatever caused discoloration to your teeth, the dentists at Ladd Dental Group of McCordsville use the latest technology to get your teeth looking their brightest.
